Valentine card
Publisher: Unknown
12mo-size white wove paper with waved 'solomonic' embossed border with lithographed flower garlands entwined around in green and red ink. There is an internal lithographed 'waved' border in gold ink inside which are lithographed flower stems and leaves in green and red ink and a hand-coloured drawing of Cupid with quiver and torch. A large pink cut-paper tulip flower with lithographed 'stripes' in red ink. The flower lifts up to reveal the drawing of Cupid underneath. 'Essence of Tulips' is hand-written in blue ink at lower centre. '43' is written in graphite at the lower right corner of the inside right-hand page. A similar card, P.14414-R-60, is mounted beside P.14414-R-59 and shares the same waved embossed border and similar lithographed elements and is evidently by the same (unknown) maker.
