Description

White wove paper with a pale pink lithographed border and scalloped 'egg and dart' edge on three sides. Lithographed branches with buds in green ink decorate the edges of the pink border along with six, hand-coloured cut-paper lithographs of flower garlands/fruit. A lithographed title is printed on a strip of white paper and affixed at upper centre: 'THE ROSE-LEAF VALENTINE'. At the centre is a lithographed lozenge printed in green and pale pink inks and a large, cut-paper lithographed leaf in green and black ink is affixed at the top of the stalk with a navy blue satin ribbon bow. The leaf lifts up to reveal a small circular window containing a real mirror, which is affixed to the verso of the front paper. A cut-paper lithographed scroll of white paper is affixed at lower centre: 'Lift the leaf and you will see / The face that always pleases me.'. The front paper is adhered to the back paper. The verso is blank.
