Valentine card
Publisher: Unknown
A small, 32mo single sheet of heavy white wove paper with an embossed gilt border design of scrolls entwined with roses. At the centre is a hand-coloured lithograph of a young woman wearing fashionable dress and a leghorn hat trimmed with lace and ostrich feathers (1850s) and carrying a parasol in her left hand. At lower centre is gilt embossed lettering with a printed line for filling in: 'No. -------------------------- Yds.'. Inscribed in graphite along the line: 'R Helen'. This is either a dressmaker's card that has been appropriated as a valentine, or a type of novelty valentine in the style of a dressmaker's card. The verso is blank.
