Valentine card
Publisher: Unknown
A lithograph with hand colouring in pink, green, orange and brown on 8vo-size white wove paper. A baroque-style frame design incorporating roses and putti of two roundels, the upper, smaller roundel containing a verse: 'Yes, yes; I promise by yon Star / Sole witness of our mutual love / tho thou art distant from me far, / Thy form all other forms above / Alone shall reign in this fond heart of mine / Till time perishes thee my Sweet Valentine'. P.14416-R-63 employs the same verse. In the larger lower roundel is a scene of a courting couple in a garden, the lady in pink rests her hand on the shoulder of the gentleman who gestures upwards with his right hand. The front is adhered to the back at upper and lower right corners. One of three valentines in the same style and design and employing the same colours which are mounted together on consecutive leaves of album P.14416-R. See also P.14416-R-63 and P.14416-R-64. A hand-written inscription in graphite on the verso of P.14416-R-64 indicates that all three valentines were purchased at 2 shillings each.
