Description

A hand-coloured lithograph on 8vo-size white wove paper with an embossed border of lyres and music design. An ornate escutcheon design with a central roundel containing hand-coloured flowers (yellow and red striped tulips, blue morning glory flowers, pink roses etc.). The same flowers spill out of the top of the escutcheon and around the lower edge. A verse is printed in sloping script in an upward curve at lower centre: 'Then press into thy heart this pledge of love. / And know though time may change and years may roll / Each flow'ret gathered in my heart / It consecrates to thine'. The interior is blank. 'G. KERSHAW LONDON' stamped along the lower edge. Another design from the same series by Kershaw is mounted onto the adjacent leaf of album P.14416-R. See P.14416-R-77. This card is listed along with P.14416-R-77 in a handwritten MS from second-hand bookseller, R.S. Frampton found on the back fly-leaf of album P.14416-R (See P.14416-R-L1), the two bracketed together and priced as 'the 2 for 6/6'.
