Valentine card
Publisher: Unknown
A hand-coloured lithograph on 4to-size white wove paper with an embossed border. At the centre is a lithographed design printed in gold ink of entwining leaves and vines forming a series of roundels containing hand-coloured flowers, a ballerina and a bird of paradise. Cupid sits in the roundel at upper left with the printed motto above: 'Go where I would wish to be'. A verse is printed in gold ink to the right of the design: 'Accept the kiss contained in this, / To greet you on this happy day, / When birds in pairs forget their cares, / And yield to mirth and sportive play. ... / And let this heart be only thine, / This happy day say, only say, / You will be mine, sweet Valentine.'. The interior is blank. A hand-written inscription on the album leaf below: '5/= [5 shillings]'. This presumably records a price from the verso which was visible prior to mounting.
