Description

A cameo-embossed valentine of white lace-paper with a pale pink slip paper in landscape orientation; a scene with classical fluted columns, a staircase, temple and trees. An oval window at the centre backed with white silk with letterpress title and verse printed in black ink: 'A WISH / I will not wish thee grandeur, / I will not wish thee wealth; / Only a contented mind, / Peace, competence, and health. / Fond friends to love thee dearly, / And honest ones to chide, / All loving thee sincerely, / Whatever may betide!'. 'WINDSOR' stamped at the base of a column at lower left. The card, which seems to be a single sheet, has been trimmed around the edges. P.14417-R-3 may originally have been contained inside a lace-paper envelope like the example see in the card mounted below it, P.14417-R-4.
