Description

A small rectangle of red transparent cellulose mounted horizontally inside a white and gilt lace-paper sleeve with a central oval window, a decorative lithographed border in gold ink part obscured. A lithographed title and verse in gold ink: 'TO HER I LEFT BEHIND ME / 'Tis true I mix in pleasure's train / And mingle with the fair; / And list me to soft music's strain - / But 'tis to shed a tear! / For O, the joy that pleasure gives - / the wreath of beauty twined, / Reminds me of a fairer still - / 'Tis her I left behind'. Printed below: 'J.T. Wood Holywell St.'. Contained inside a white lace-paper envelope with four flaps. Almost identical to P.14417-R-8, but with a different printed verse. One of a group of lithographed cellulose valentines mounted or found loose in album P.14417-R, some of which are contained in lace-paper sleeves and/or envelopes.
