Description

A small rectangle of red transparent cellulose mounted horizontally inside a white and gilt lace-paper sleeve with a central oval window, a decorative lithographed border in gold ink part obscured. A lithographed title and verse in gold ink: 'I LOVE BUT THEE / I after all you will still doubt and fear me / And think this heart to other loves will stray; / If I must swear --- then, lovely [...] hear / me -- / ... I love but thee -- I love but thee'. Printed below: 'J.T. Wood Holywell St.'. Contained inside a white lace-paper envelope with four flaps. One of a group of lithographed cellulose valentines mounted or found loose in album P.14417-R, some of which are contained in lace-paper sleeves and/or envelopes. Almost identical to P.14417-R-7, but with a different printed verse.
