Description

A small rectangle of green transparent cellulose, lithographed in gold ink and mounted horizontally inside a white lace-paper sleeve with a central oval window. A title and verse is lithographed in gold ink: 'I'LL WRITE TO THEE. / I'll write to thee! aya, fondly write / My every whisper'd sigh, / My thoughts by day, my dreams by night / My wish that thou wert nigh. / I'll send thee vows as softly sweet, ... A kiss by word of mouth.'. One of a group of lithographed cellulose valentines mounted or found loose in album P.14417-R, some of which are contained in lace-paper sleeves and/or envelopes. Although a maker's name cannot be found, P.14417-R-16 was probably made by J.T. Wood, like most of the other cellulose valentines contained in this album. A loose valentine of dark blue transparent cellulose, P.14417-R-L3, found in the same album between nos. 7 and 12 employs the same title and verse.
