Description

A lace-paper envelope with hand-written address on the recto in black ink: 'Miss M Brightwell / No. 2 Bur[?n]ham Terrace / Wyndham Road / Camberwell / London'. A red one penny stamp at upper right corner. On the verse are two circular delivery stamps: black: '8 / BRANDON / FE 13 / 62' and red: '?0Z / LONDON / FE-14 / 62'. A handwritten inscription in graphite (Catherine Parson's hand) at lower right of the adjacent leaf repeats the name of the recipient on the envelope and the postage date: 'Miss M Brightwell's valentine / 1862'. of the inscription is unknown, but the hand is unlike Glaisher's own. Miss Catherine Parsons arranged and mounted Glaisher's valentine collection c.1924-1928. See correspondence from Glaisher to Miss Parsons in the Fitzwilliam Museum Archive.
