Description

Embossed white lace-paper (front adhered to the back) with a central roundel containing an uncoloured lithograph in black ink of a marriage ceremony. The roundel has a frame of gold leaf. Affixed at upper centre is a medallion with a similar frame of gold leaf which contains a lithograph of a flaming torch crossed with a bow and quiver of arrows. A paper swag printed in gold lithography is affixed at lower centre and bears the verse: 'Say will such happiness be mine / my ever dearest Valentine.'. Similar in style to two other valentines with the same lace-paper design and central roundels containing hand-coloured lithographs which are all probably by the same hand and mounted on adjacent leaves of album P.14417-R. See P.14417-R-84 and P.14417-R-86.
