Valentine card

Loose inside album P.14417-R between nos. 84 and 89. Heavy, cream card, die-cut as a cartouche with shaped and scalloped edges. An embossed design of a crown (upper centre) and laurel boughs tied with a ribbon (left and right). At the centre is a lithographed border, hand-coloured with green and gold ink, around a hand-coloured lithographed outdoor scene of a dark-haired young girl in a blue dress holding a posy of flowers. A cut-paper scroll with lithographed gilt border and motto in green ink: 'We live to love.'. On the verso is a hand-written inscription in black ink: 'O, What beautiful / flowers ['flowers' underlined]'. Remnants of glue on the verso at upper and lower centre indicate that the valentine was previously pasted into an album or similar.
