Valentine card
Publisher: Unknown
A single sheet of white lace-paper which is folded twice. The lace-paper has a hand-drawn inner line-border in blue ink with a scalloped design. At the centre is a circular window with a beige fabric blind mounted with an embossed paper ornament of a bunch of grasses, hand-painted green with additions of silver and gold metallic paper and overlaid with embossed, hand-coloured flowers. A silver-metallic paper bow is affixed at the base of the stalks. The window has a border of pink, silk woven ribbon. A verse is handwritten in blue ink above and below the central window: 'the best of starts to me, Are thy fond eyes so bright: / When Love you plainly see, / Within, to give them light.'. P.14419-R.f34r is a valentine of a similar design with comparable collage elements, a hand-drawn border (in red) and verse written in the same style.
