Bookseller's invoice relating to an album of valentines
Publisher: Unknown
Found loose inside the front cover of an album containing valentines, P.14419-R. An invoice for goods sent on approval to J.W.L. Glaisher from the London-based bookseller, Salkeld. A sheet of white laid paper, printed with lines and columns and with printed address: 'To JOHN SALKELD, / (C.E. SALKELD) / ENGLISH AND FOREIGN BOOKSELLER, / 306, CLAPHAM ROAD, LONDON, S.W.9. / LIBRARIES PURCHASED OR VALUED / Cat. No / Lot No. Handwritten additions in black ink: 'Dr Glaisher / Aug 7th [192]5 / Album with Valentines / £1.50'. The verso is blank. In correspondence from Glaisher to Miss Catherine Parsons held in the Fitzwilliam Museum archive, Glaisher mentions Salkeld as a source of valentines from February 4th, 1925 onwards, especially in relation to albums containing valentines. See MS 919-1985. It is not possible to be certain, but of the albums containing valentines that were 'bought in' by Glaisher, P.14418-R or P.14420-R could be candidates for the 'album with valentines' described in this document.
