Valentine card

A small 48mo-size valentine of white embossed lace-paper with a design of banana palms, trees and a trellis archway and with a pink slip paper. At the centre is a gilt-framed, hand-coloured lithograph of a young woman in evening dress holding a letter in her lap. A small oval of blue paper with gold lithography affixed at lower centre bears the motto: 'FORGET ME NOT'. An initial 'E' is written in graphite on the album leaf below the valentine. The names 'Edith' and 'Netty' are written into the album. These names would probably account for the single initials of 'E' or 'N' written on the album leaves adjacent to a number of the valentines in the album. The initials presumably indicate either from whom they were received or to whom they were sent.
