Description

A small 'birthday' valentine of white embossed lace-paper, with hand-colouring of embossed flowers, containing a sheet of red transparent cellulose printed in gold ink with title and verse inside a border: 'A BIRTHDAY / Dear friend, on this thy natal day, / Accept my fond and ardent wish, ...'. The card is contained inside an envelope of white lace-paper with gold foil 'seal' still attached. A handwritten inscription in black ink on the inside of the upper and lower flaps: 'From E.H. / April 2nd / 1853'. 'KERSHAW' is stamped on the uppermost flap of the envelope. Uses the same verse as P.14421-R.f11rii.
