Description

A comic valentine on thin white wove paper which has been cut down and mounted onto a larger piece of white wove paper. A hand-coloured woodcut showing two scenes; on the left is a woman in an embrace about to kiss a policeman in uniform whilst on the right is a gentleman with long whiskers wearing an arm band marked 'SPECIAL'. A printed verse below: 'While abroad as Special you roam, / Your wife gets a Bobby for duty at home; / Brother Officers thus shew kindness for you, / In being thus ready your duty to do. / Such a fellow feeling you always should prize, / When your wife has a FELLOW FEELING likewise'. One of a series of comic valentines: '[290.', printed to the right of the verse.
