Valentine card
Publisher: Unknown
A sheet of white wove paper with, at the upper left corner, an embossed gilt roundel containing a backing of white silk printed with four musical staves, entitled SONG and with words: 'Yes! I'll love you, oh how / dearly! Words but faintly can express: / This fond heart beats too sin-cerely, / Eer in life to love you less'. A decorative bracket containing flowers and musical putti surrounds the roundel. A handwritten poem of three verses in black ink to the right and below: 'Oh! Jessie, dear Jessie / have pity I pray ... Oh! Jessie, dear girl, if you fling about hearts / It may cause you one day to repine / For though Love draws his bows & most expertly darts / From your eyes killing glances, by fits & by starts, / He may burn his own fingers some day with his arts / And lose you a true Valentine'. The white wove paper is mounted onto a larger sheet of green wove paper.
