Valentine card
Publisher: Unknown
A small, square folding valentine with chromolithographed flower sprays and mottos on all four sides and green silk fringing around the edges. The card is unmarked, but the style and design are very closely comparable with the folding, silk fringed cards with chromolithographed flower sprays produced by Thomas Stevens in the mid 1870s. Compare also with P.14597-R, a similar card with silk fringing contained loose inside the same red envelope. On the recto, white geranium flowers with banded geranium leaf and motto: 'A TRIBUTE OF A LOVING HEART'; on the inside left-hand page, white carnations and buds with motto: 'WITH MY HEART'S BEST LOVE'. On the inside right-hand page, white lilies with motto: 'EVER FAITHFUL AND TRUE'. On the verso, white (anenome?) flowers and motto: 'WITH LOVE TO MY LOVE'.
