Description

A boxed sachet valentine. A large sachet of white padded silk with 'frame' of silver lace-paper and two ribbons of white silk (possibly originally tied in a bow), contained inside a shallow white cardboard box with a lid. A central oval embroidered panel is edged with silver lace-paper. An embroidered title and verse in red, blue and yellow thread: 'TO THE ONE I LOVE / Dearest accept this / offering, / From a heart that's / truly thine, / My fond thoughts / are in it spoken / To thee, my only / Valentine'. The verso is backed with white, coated paper. A price is inscribed in graphite: '6/- [6 shillings]'. The base of the box is lined with white lace-paper around the edges. An inscription in graphite on the lid of the box: 'Hope 3/-'.
