Valentine card
Publisher: Unknown
A framed valentine. We know from letters written by Glaisher to Catherine Parsons that she encouraged him to frame at least one of his valentines (Fitzwilliam Museum, MS 939-1985, 12th April 1925, letter to Miss Catherine Parsons: 'I quite agree about the Acton one in its box & about framing the pearl one …'.) and P.14616-R is one of four framed valentines in the Glaisher bequest. A sheet of silver cameo-embossed lace-paper, probably mounted on paper springs onto a front of white lace-paper. The cameo-embossed scene features a shepherd and shepherdess with sheep beside a classical plinth and urn containing flowers, overarching trees above and to the left. A central window contains a collage of real grasses, moss and ferns which are studded with cut-paper hand-coloured flowers and embossed white lace-paper putti.
