Description

Square dish. Hard-paste porcelain painted in famille rose enamels, green, yellow, iron-red, black, brown, on a rose ground. The steep, curved sides with flaring rim springing from a low foot with flat, recessed base. The interior is decorated with a central quatrefoil cartouche enclosing a European figure in landscape, holding a lantern, surrounded by four smaller quatrefoil cartouches each enclosing a seated European figure in a landscape, reserved on a rose ground painted in deeper rose with scrolling flower heads. Gilt rim, the underside is covered in a turquoise glaze.
