Description

Netsuke: katabori: cicada. Wood, carved and decorated with brown and red lacquer. A cicada, its wings folded on its back and resting on a leaf supported by a twig. Its legs are carved in relief with incised details on the wings and body. The cicada is decorated in brown lacquer with gold flakes on the wings. Two beady mother-of-pearl eyes protrude like headlights. There are traces of red lacquer on the leaf. The twig is decorated in brown. A natural himotoshi is formed by the twig.
