A snuffed out candle stands in a candlestick on the circular table in front of him. The artist's initials in monogram at lower right: 'HB'. Text printed below the border at lower right: '- These Windsor fellows charge me 71/2d & 8d. - It's too much. / - I'll not pay it - Can't afford such extravagance.'. Printed below across the full width of the paper: ' "His Majesty reads the newspapers without the aid of glasses and by _the light of a single candle_"!!! see Windsor Correspondent - _Morning Herald_'. Printed below the border enclosing the text at the centre, the lower edges of the letters cropped slightly: 'Published Jany 9th 1830 by Thomas McLean, 26. Haymarket'. Handwritten in graphite at upper right: '37'. See 16007,_Catalogue of Political and Personal Satires_, Vol. XI, 1828-1832, M.D. George, published 1954, pp. 253-254. A number '[37]' printed in square brackets in the right-hand margin on p. 253 relates to the handwritten number at upper right, both referencing the sequence of John Doyle's Political Sketches series.
