Description

Lithograph (uncoloured) on white wove paper. Inlaid within a frame of buff wove paper (approx. height 360mm x width 515mm). A carriage with lettering on the side: 'Anna Brody / Hertford' is driven by two horses passing along a road in the foreground at high speed, from right to left, following a sign, 'To Hitchin.'. One of the horses is driven by a man seated on its back and the profile of a man inside the carriage can be seen (Lord Denman). In the distance at the far left, another sign 'To Barnet' (in the opposite direction) is followed by a rider who whips the horses. The silhouette of a man wearing a top hat can be seen inside the carriage (Lord Brougham). Signed at lower left with monogram: 'HB'. Title printed below the border: 'A WILD GOOD CHASE BETWEEN_TWO_ YELLOWS AND _TWO'. Below the title: 'an Ex-_post_ fact O! Joke. / Vide John Bull March 16.'. The publisher's details printed below the border to the left: 'Published by Thos. McLean, 26, Haymarket, March 27th. 1834.'. Printer's details below the border to the right: 'A. Ducôté's Lithogy. 70, St Martins Lane, London'. Printed above the border at upper right: 'HB Sketches No 310'. P.14738-R is another impression.
