Description

A large, unbound portfolio inside a wrapper of brown paper with a printed label (in French) affixed at upper centre: 'CHEVAUX / de Races orientales / aux haras de S. M. le Roi de Wurttemberg [from the stud of His Majesty the King of Württemberg] / par / L'Institut royal de Lithographie / a Stouttgart. / 1. Cahier, / 1823. / A Stouttgart chez George Ebner, Marchand d'estampes.' Inside are nine large sheets of heavy, white wove paper; a dedication page, foreward and title page (all printed in French), followed by six, large tinted lithographs of Arabian horses by Lorenz Ekeman-Allesson after drawings by Rudolf Kuntz. The printed titles and descriptions of colouration below each image are given in German and French. The horses from the stud of the King of Württemberg featured would most likely have been those owned by William I, who was King of Württemberg between 1816 and 1864. All the sheets are watermarked, 'H. OSER. IN. BASEL'. f1r: 'Dèdiè / A SA MAJESTÈ LE ROI / de WURTTEMBERG / par / L'Editeur / Chr.
