Description

Etching and stipple on wove paper. Head and shoulders of an elderly man with shoulder-length, wavy hair, shoulders facing front and head turned in three-quarter profile to the left, within a roundel. A proof before letters. Inscribed in pen and ink and graphite below the roundel, but within the platemark: 'Nath.l Smith born / June 4th 1738 died Feby / 4th 1809 Aged 70 & 6 months'. Inscription in pen and ink on the verso: 'Giv / Given to me by his youngest / son 24 ap. 1811'. See Notes.
