Description

Etching on laid paper. A head-and-shoulders portrait of a young girl wearing a shepherdess-style hat and a shawl around her shoulders. A portrait of the Mary, the younger daughter of William Hoare. Trimmed to the platemark except for along the lower edge where there are handwritten inscriptions in the margin: 'Miss Hoare' (graphite); 'Wm Hoare fr aqua' (brown ink). An untrimmed impression of this print in the collection of the British Museum (1852,0214.289) bears inscriptions which indicate it as printed from a private plate.
