Portrait of Christopher Sharp
Printmaker:
Sharp, Christopher
Draughtsman:
Orde, Thomas
(After)
Etching on paper. Head and shoulders portrait of a man in profile facing right. He wears a short wig with thick curls at the base and a plain coat and collar. Signed on the plate at lower right: 'C: #.'. Inscription in pen and ink at upper right: 'etched by himself'. Early proof of the same plate as seen in P.14843-R, in which the printmaker's signature, 'C: #.' is still visible on the plate beneath an area of dense cross-hatching at lower right. P.14839-R, P.14840-R and P.14841-R are proofs of a similar etched portrait of Sharp relating to a different plate.
