Linen embroidered with polychrome silks (very faded) in cross, eyelet and double running stitch.

Sampler divided into bands by small scale repeat pattern bands. At the top a flower/stem/acorn repeat pattern band. Beneath are bands of upper and lower case alphabets and numerals including the initials CH flanked by hearts and the date 1739. The dominant bands are of an embellished upper case alphabet typical of Scottish samplers. The final band comprises a line of crowns and coronets with the appropriate initials for each order of nobility.
