Linen(?) embroidered with polychrome silks in cross stitch.
27cm x 32.2cm
10 3/4" x 12 5/8"

Repeat pattern bands (25) worked in increasing size and complexity, geometric with four stylised floral repeat patterns on the lower part of the sampler.

The frame carried the maker's shield shaped logo: "JFNY" at the top, followed by " Jos Fischl Photographer Artists Materials Photo Supplies Frames 1442 Third Avenue New York

It is almost certainly American.
