Linen, embroidered with polychrome silks (very faded) in cross stitch.
30.75cm x 39.25cm
12 1/8" X 15 1/2"

Within the enclosing strawberry (or flower bud) border there is an inscription at the top with the title "MARTIN LUTHERS HYMN"
"GREAT GOD WHAT DO I SEE AND HEAR/THE END OF THINGS CREATED/THE JUDGE OF MANKIND DOTH APPEAR/ON CLOUDS OF GLORY SEATED/THE TRUMPET SOUNDS THE GRAVES RESTORE/THE DEAD WHICH THEY CONTAINED BEFORE/PREPARE MY SOUL TO MEET HIM"
This the first verse of a hymn by William Bengo Collyer (1782-1854), a Congregational minister and author, probably set to the tune of Luther's Hymn "A mighty fortress is our God".
beneath are 6 large detached motifs, 5 with birds or flowers and top centre a house.
Centre bottom ,set within a frame, "HARRIET HEATON'
S WORK 1811" flanked by "AGED" & "8 YEARS"
