Wool(?) embroidered with polychromesilks in cross stitch.

A strawberry border encloses a sampler divided into three sections. The upper section comprises a central flower pot flanked by two smaller ones, columns with perching birds. The central section has a central flower basket ( an oversized rose), two further flower baskets, columns and perching birds.. The lower section contains the inscription "elizabeth jannet hall/aged 10years may 1 1843"
The frame carries the makers label of Chapman Bros. 241 Kings Road , Chelsea. They are mentioned in British Picture Framers 1600-1950 and the frame may be the sampler's original one.
Elizabeth was probably the daughter of Peter & Jannet Hall, born 3rd August 1832, christened on the 23rd September at St. Luke's , Old Street, Finsbury.
