Dangers Averted Medal
Ruler: Elizabeth I (1558-1603)
This medal was executed shortly after the destruction of the Armada, and was possibly a naval reward. The bay tree on the reverse represents Elizabeth's strength as it was believed that bay tree's were incapable of injury from lightning.

Production date: AD 1589
Object composed of bronze Diameter (min) 59 mm Diameter 59 mm Weight 59.27 g
Inscription present: Bust of Elizabeth, full face, wearing a high crown, necklace with pendants, ruff open in front, erect behind, gown and sleeves puffed in diamond shaped pattern and jewelled. She holds a sceptre and orb.
Inscription present: A bay tree, on an island covered in buildings, surrounded by the sea which contains monsters and three ships in the background.
