Lacquer box, kogo (box for the incense ceremony). Box, lacquer. Rectangular box with overhanging lid (A) and two cusped sides containing two smaller rectangular boxes (B & C) and a tray (D). The cover is decorated with silver and gold flowering branches in low-relief on a powdered gold and black lacquer ground. The two smaller boxes have seated lids and are decorated with gold and silver scattered flower heads in low-relief on a gold fundame (matt) ground, with nashiji (shimmering spangles) interior. The tray is decorated in low-relief with a floral spray in gold and silver on a dense nashiji ground and gold fundame rim. The lower section has a circular hole to one side, and the interior and base are decorated with nashiji.
