Description

Allegorical composition in which two female figures wearing medieval costume in a flower-strewn landscape are being attacked by a large black bird. The kneeling figure in red represents England (crowned and drawing a sword marked with the cross of St. George) and in green, is France who fends off the large black eagle of Germany attacking from the air. The outline of the Cathedral of Notre-Dame, Paris is seen in the distance on the right.
