After the painting by Sir Thomas Lawrence (exh. R.A. 1815, no. 76, 'Portrait of His Highness Prince Metternich Winnebourg Achsenhausen, Minister for Foreign Affairs of His Majesty the Emperor of Austria', and reworked 1818-1819; Royal Collection Trust (Waterloo Chamber, Windsor Castle), RCIN 404948. One of the portraits of leaders of the wartime coalition against Napoleon commissioned of Lawrence by George IV). Clement Wenceslaus Lothar, Prince of Metternich-Winneburg [Clemens Lothar Wenzel, Prince Metternich; Prince Klemens von Metternich; Klemens Wenzel Nepomuk Lothar, Prince von Metternich-Winneburg zu Beilstein] (1773-1859), was an Austrian diplomat who was Austrian Minister for Foreign Affairs from 1809 and Chancellor from 1821 until 1848. Seated, three-quarter-length, right leg crossed over the left, turned towards the right, looking towards the left. He wears court uniform with three stars, the Order of the Golden Fleece and the ribbon of St Stephen.

Mezzotint, printed in black ink. State II after the addition of the title. Engraved in open roman letters below the image to the left: 'Painted by Sir Tho.s Lawrence P.R.A.'. Engraved in open roman letters below the image to the right: 'Engraved by Samuel Cousins'. Title engraved in five lines of sloping script and open letters: 'His Serene Highness / Clement Wenceslaus Lothar / PRINCE OF METTERNICH-WINNEBURG, / Chancellor of the Court and State of his Majesty / The Emperor of Austria &c &c'. Publication line engraved just above the platemark: 'Published Sept. 1 1830 by Colnaghi Son & Co. Pall Mall East, & Moon, Boys & Graves 6, Pall Mall, London'. Inscribed in graphite lower centre: 'presented by Dominick Colnaghi Esq / 14 Pall Mall East'. Inscribed in graphite on the verso: '7 [encircled]'.
