England, Henry II (1154-89), lead trial-piece struck from dies of Cross-and-Crosslets (Tealby) class F3 (c. 1174-1180), Thetford mint, moneyer Turstain, 12.65g. Found at Joe Blunts Lane, Thetford, Norfolk, September/October 2002. An important find, apparently resulting from the use of a piece of lead to test the dies received by one of Thetfords moneyers in last years of the existence of the Thetford mint. One other trial-piece of this coinage is known, found recently in excavations at Canterbury.
