This is an historically interesting coin struck from an obverse die previously used in Winchester and a reverse die with the mint-signature altered from WIN (for Winchester) to WIL (for Wilton). The Winchester mint was destroyed by fire on the night of 14-15 July 1180, and some of its dies were subsequently used in Wilton.: CM.1971-2003

England, Henry II (1154-89), silver penny, Short Cross class 1a2, Wilton, moneyer Rodbert (same dies as Mass, SCBI 56, nos. 169-70), 1.39g. Found at Puxton, North Somerset, 26 December 2002.
