Coverboards covered in dark red grained effect paper over board. There is a tear in the paper on the back cover. Collocation: four gatherings containing the following number of folios: twenty two (six torn out); twenty three (seventeen torn out); twenty five (ten torn out and one attached to back cover). 44 leaves. First folio is heavy cream coloured paper. Otherwise the remainder are cream coloured tracing paper. Page 23 has base of page cut off, through study recto. 34 unused sides in sketchbook.

This sketchbook contains preliminary ideas and sketches for the following engravings: 'Threshing in England' [291], 1934; 'Hedge Trimming' [281], 1934; 'Angry Cows [308], 1934; '?The Bird's Nest' [261], 1932; 'Going Home' [304], 1934; 'Clytemnestra' [270], 1933; 'A Fury' [271], 1933. Studies of rooftops, rural scenes, clothing and costume, figure studies including female child going up stairs, men round globe etc.
