Acquisition and important dates

Drawn from life, probably using Babette Giroux as the model. She came to help the Raverats with their children in 1922 but also acted as nurse and model to Gewn and Jacques until his death in 1925. This study may well have served as a preliminary idea for both 'Sleepers' [141], 1927 and 'Summer in the Mountains', frontispiece for Daphnis and Chloë, Book 1, Ashendene Press, Chelsea, 1928/31.
