Note

Preparatory study, using a life model, for 'Daphnis Pipes' [151], an illustration to Daphnis and Chloë, 1928/31, p. 11. In a letter dated 21 August 1928, Gerald Meade refers to his modelling for a half-finished study for Daphne and Chloë. It is therefore probably that he was the model for 'Daphnis Pipes', and also possibly for 'The End of the Story', [176], Daphnis and Chloë, 1928/31, p. 162 and for 'Daphnis Pipes the Goats [172], Daphnis and Chloë, 1928/31, p. 137.
