Preparatory study for the woodcut, 'The Threshing Machine', [197], 1930. See also extensive studies in sketchbook PD.71-1994 and PD.73-1994, 1929. Threshing was a subject to which G.R. returned on a number of occasions (e.g. 'September' [196], 1930, one of 'The Twelve Months' published in Time and Tide', 1930, and 'Threshing in England', designed and cut as one of the illustrations to A.G. Street, 'Farmer's Glory', Faber and Faber, 1934.
