Description

Coverboards comprising light brown millboard. The folios have been sewn together and then bound on to the inside covers with a strip of linen. There is an additional strip of linen glued along the spine. There are two types of paper, one of which is laid paper (sheets (a) and (b)). Collocation: one gathering containing twenty eight folios. Pages of extremely varying sizes. Assorted subjects, dominated by landscapes and trees although there are occasional figure studies (including a baby) or part figure studies, also one side with studies of donkeys.

Production date: circa AD 1925

Note

Studies of "young figs" "fig tree" "Lillebrowne" (the outside of some low buildings) ?"Vence" (a wooded rural landscape) "Montwilliens" (village rooftops with spire) and several other annotated landscapes, possibly intended for painting later (hence colour notes etc). Centre (smaller) pages have double page landscapes in black chalk.

Inscription present: a spiral of pencil and some random-seeming marks
