Coverboards covered in dark red grained effect paper over board. Cream coloured tracing paper, f.1 is of a heavier weight and thickness. Collocation: four gatherings containing the following number of folios: twenty one (five torn out); twenty six (nine torn out); twenty seven (sixteen torn out); twenty one (six torn out and one attached to back cover). Page 57 is completely detatched along a tear but tucked inside in the correct place.

This sketchbook contains numerous small figure studies (some probably from life, some fanciful), compositions including people praying, architectural studies and sketches of rural scenes with and without farm workers and horses. The sketchbook also contains preliminary drawings and ideas for the following engravings: 'Abbaye de Pontigny' [200], 1930. 'October' [197], 1930. 'Thumbelina and the Toads' [203], 1931. 'The Mill Pool' [202], 1931. 'The Moon' [217], 1932. 'December' [199], 1930. 'The River' [268], 1933.
