Bottle-vase. Hard paste greyish porcelain, painted underglaze in blue. The spherical body rises from a low foot with flat, glazed base, and tapers to a narrow neck with an uneven mouth and heavily potted, rounded lip with firing faults on the underside. The body and neck are decorated overall in a late type of octopus scroll above a repeating border of 'o x o'. Three lines encircle the foot.

This vase is of exceptionally large size. The apparent Japanese lacquer repair indicates that it was made for the japanese market, and was imported into Europe much later. This close but still 'bobbled' octopus scroll is characteristic from mid 18th century onwards.
