Hard paste porcelain painted with red, green and black enamels. Circular, unusual shape, shallow with steeply rising low rounded sides resting on a low footring. The inside is painted with an asymmetrical design of fronds of unrolling fern and mosses outlined in black and grasses in red.

China or Japan, perhaps painted in Japan. According to the donor the glaze is very green, and it is well potted suggesting China or quite late Japanese, but overglaze is no different from the 17th Century
