Description

Posthumous portrait bust of the English politician, William Pitt the Younger. Plaster, cast. The sitter's head is turned, facing and looking slightly left. He wears an overcoat and waistcoat with jabot and neck-cloth, and a gown of (?) the Chancellor of the Exchequer. Inscribed along the terminating edge of the gown: 'The Rt. Honble. William Pitt', and 'G. Garrard/fecit May 30 (?) 1808'. At the time of his death in 1806, Pitt was in office for his third term as Prime Minister.
