Note

Nollekens was one of five sculptors invited to submit a model for a commemorative portrait statue of Pitt by the University of Cambridge for the Senate House in 1807. John Bacon the Younger, John Flaxman, George Garrard and Richard Westmacott the Elder were the other sculptors. The prestigious commission was awarded to Nollekens, for which he was paid 3,000 guineas. The statue was erected in the Senate House in July 1812. Nollekens charged a further £1,000 for the statue’s pedestal.
